Congress split the Dakota territory in half in 1889 to admit two new states with 4 Republican senators

So spare us the fake outrage over DC statehood

At some point, only the willfully ignorant and destructive will remain unvaccinated. Once that happens, employers, retail establishments, entertainment venues, public buildings, etc. should insist that people present a secure form of proof of vaccination https://www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/2021/04/22/soon-we-need-stop-catering-vaccine-holdouts/

“Double mutant” is a meaningless term and you should doubt the qualifications, compassion, and intent of anyone purporting to be an expert who reduces an ongoing, complex public health tragedy to alarmist clickbait.

Also, when talking about private schools, you really don’t get to go down the whole “indoctrination! ideology! the horror the horror!” rabbit hole. Because that’s what private schools are: a place where parents pay to have their specific beliefs taught.

“Schools, even private ones, shouldn’t indoctrinate my kids!”

WTF do you call Catholic schools, then? They’re indoctrination factories, but these clowns don’t have a problem with that.

We've now had four big new climate goals announced

UK -68% below 1990
EU -55% below 1990
US -52% below 2005
JP -46% below 2013

Who is most ambitious?

Depends on the baseline…

1990 UK>EU>US>JP
2005 UK>US>EU>JP
2013 UK>US>EU>JP
2018 US>UK>EU>JP

Some school board or admin policies seem kinda bone-headed until you realize that these meanies are typical of a double digit % of parents in any school district.

In Search of Sungudogo by Greg Laden.

Sometimes called the "fourth African ape," Sungudogo is not a Gorilla, not a Chimpanzee, not a Bonobo, and possibly not even real. Years ago, Sungudogo drew the interest of the world famous primatologist Dieter Phillips, who was funded by a secret society of "scholars and gentlemen" to launch an expedition to determine the veracity of this mysterious primate. Dieter never returned from that expedition, and as the years passed, the whole story drifted into obscurity. But the watchers were always watching, always waiting, for clues of the fate of this expedition. When new evidence came to light, the investigation was renewed into the outcome of Phillip's ill fated trek into the Rain Forest. Who better to follow Dieter Phillip's tracks than his former student, aided by an explorer and mercenary familiar with the area, assisted by two willing Congolese park guards? They were to learn things that went beyond their wildest imaginations, and they would discover secrets about Phillip's expedition, about the rift valley, about themselves, about humanity, that they would never be able to share but that would change their lives forever.
