Cory Booker May Be Thrown Out of the US Senate For Standing Up to Republicans.

Holy moly. Every day you can make a list of which is the most important news story of the day, but if you do, put it on 3×5 Index Cards so you can keep re-arranging it.

Booker released a chunk of the secreted Kavanaugh documents, possibly breaking a Senate rule. Breaking that rule, if he did break it, can result in his expulsion from the Senate.

When confronted with that prospect by Republican leaders, with Kavanaugh looking on and making funny faces, Booker said, “Bring it!”

Does this qualify as a constitutional crisis? It probably would if Booker is thrown out of the Senate and a few thousand citizen show up to put him back in the Senate.

Have you read the breakthrough novel of the year? When you are done with that, try:

  1. Cory Booker could be in real trouble here.

These documents were turned over to the Senate with the stipulation that some would not be released to the public, at least for now. So Cory Booker is not just violating the Senate rules, but is also violating an agreement with the Executive branch.

He already admitted he is violating these rules knowingly.

Cory Booker doesn’t have the right to declassify these documents.

He should be sanctioned and could even have violated the law.

And for what? Probably a giant nothing burger (from what I have heard on the radio).

    I guess we will see.

Personally, I would throw the book at Booker.

    1. That assumes, of course, that there is a good reason for those documents to be classified in the first place (versus being classified purely as a means of keeping information that would reveal important yet “damaging” information about Kavanaugh).

Of course, for you the “throw the book at him” decision is easily made for two reasons: Booker is neither Republican nor white.

    2. So, I presume that you’ll be repeating your calls that the book also be thrown at Nunes and other Republicans who released confidential material that had much more profound real-world consequences that these documents that simply demonstrate the Kavanagh is unfit for the Supreme Court?

    3. Bernard J.:

Are you referring to the release of the Nunes memo?

Nunes didn’t release it, President Trump did.

Unlike Booker, President Trump actually has the right to declassify.

If not the Nunes memo you will have to be a bit more specific, because I am not sure what you are talking about.

    4. No, not the memo. Nunes selectively released material pertaining to Fusion GPS in an effort to discredit their research.

Nunes also released Mark Warner’s text messages. When all is said and done, one has to regard anything that goes through Nunes fingers as being public knowledge…

You should know this stuff if you’re going to pronounce on it. It’s not difficult to find.

  2. To RickA…glad I don’t know you!

“Booker released a chunk of the secreted Kavanaugh documents, possibly breaking a Senate rule. Breaking that rule, if he did break it, can result in his expulsion from the Senate.” Sorry but they are there to SERVE US – the PUBLIC! if they have secrets then they are CROOKS! Only criminals need to keep secrets! And don’t even mention what about our secret agents!! To hell with them, what good are they? Did they stop 9/11? And why are we spying on so many while doing not much of nothing about important stuff…like pollution, the homeless, the sick!!
SHINE that light on rePUKEian criminal activities!!!
I hope Booker tears the crap out of the senate, & their BS activities!!

  3. It looks like this was theater, as the documents were already agreed to be released the night before by the executive branch.

While they are releasing documents, how about the unredacted Page FISA?

    1. I don’t think the documents are ‘classified’ just ruled ‘for committee eyes only’. If they were classified, Booker would be risking jail time in releasing.
It appears Booker just wanted the headline that he is breaking Senate rules and risking ouster, to boost his presidential campaign. Judging by this post, MISSION ACCOMPLISHED!

  4. If there is no big deal mikeN, there is no reason for the Republicans

    – to be upset over this (hence the ‘bring it’ comment, as Booker knew the right was just blowing air
    – those things should not have been restricted in the first place

In short, your derision of Booker is groundless. he was doing what the Republicans, if they were ethical, would have done in the first place.

The distraction (out of context, conspiracy based) “Page Fisa” garbage is, as usual, meaningless.

    1. Booker’s staff were the ones who asked the material to be made public. At the time he did his grandstanding, Booker knew the material was allowed to be made public. In other words, Booker was lying to the public.

  5. Tweet from Marco Rubio:
On this day in 71B.C. the Thracian gladiator Spartacus was put to death by Marcus Licinius Crassus for disclosing confidential scrolls. When informed days later that in fact the Roman Senate had already publicly released the scrolls, Crassus replied “Oh, ok, my bad”.

  6. At the time he did his grandstanding, Booker knew the material was allowed to be made public.

Nice lie, but the decision to release them hadn’t been made when he read them.

  7. What are the real-world consequences of the release of the Nunes memo?

Since we know nothing in it is supported by fact we now know just how dedicated the right is to lying about anything and everything.

  8. And we now know that Kavanaugh has flat out lied several times. It’s no wonder such a small percentage of material relating to him was released at the first go.
