Which happens more often: Trump tells a bald faced lie, or a cop kills a citizen?

During the last 347 days of the Trump presidency, Donald Trump has lied 1,950 times, according to the Washington Post, which is keeping track.

The same newspaper tracks the number of times the police in the US shoot and kill a person. During the 365 days of 2017, that happened 987 times.

So, Donald Trump lies about 6.62 times a day.

So, american cops kill about 2.7 people a day.

This means that by the time Donald Trump delivers his inaugural address later this month, he will have lied approximately 100 more times. This does not mean that he will give us 100 more distinct lies. Many of his lies are repeats. Then, in the inaugural itself, we’ll probably get another big batch.

Between now and the inaugural address, about 40 of us will be gunned down in the streets or in our homes by the cops. (For perspective, the total rate of death of Americans in this country’s longest war, in Afghanistan, averages out to about one killed every three days, while the number of Americans killed in Viet Nam, which is actually hard to estimate, is two to three times the rate at which the cops kill us. So, the cops kill us at a rate that is about the same order of magnitude as a recent, modern, war.)

Happy January!

By the way, I’m enjoying Fire and Fury: Inside the Trump White House.

  1. >This means that by the time Donald Trump delivers his inaugural address

I thought Dave Chapelle was the only liberal who conceded Trump would be re-elected.

  2. Greg,

Please no time warp back to the past. That would mean I would have over an year to wait to retire instead of 7 working days and 21 days until my move to Thailand.

  3. killedbypolice.net says 2017 had 1188 citizens slain by cops (not delineating between justified / unjustified slayings)

The anti gun position is fickle in that it cries out for moar State power to be enforced at the point of a gun, then decries cops killing citizens recognizing the corrupting nature of the power they insist taking from citizens to fully vest in the State.

  4. The anti gun position is fickle in that it cries out for moar State power to be enforced at the point of a gun…

yeah, that crap is spouted quite a bit by stupid people who are unable to think or read critically.

(Looks at the person who posted it)

    Yup, what I said.

    1. Paraphrasing Dean: “You’re stupid. Yes, you’re stupid.”
You make a strong rebuttal dean. Thanks for that contribution.

  5. Gun owners were responsible for the deaths of 33,636 people in 20133,636 3 in the USA. About two thirds of this number is gun owners who killed themselves. So gun owners are responsible for over 1% of the deaths in the USA each year.

But this really isn’t so surprising. It is basically part of the price of worshiping the obsolete and heavily misinterpreted second amendment. It is also part of the price of living in a culture which steeps itself in media violence and dehumanizing pastimes and then stupidly pretends that there is no correlation between what we watch and how we feel and what we tend to do. It is also a resultant from living in a society which values making profit from guns and ammunition so much that it is willing to sacrifice upwards of 33,636 people a year to keep the gears of the gun industry turning. Think of it. In our country, some portion of the 33,636 human sacrifices made at the hands of gun owners per year can be traced to the fear of angering the gun profit gods. Who says we don’t have freedom of religion here? We have what amounts to a major war waged against ourselves all over love of guns and fear of the gun lobby. Oh, and also, so losers with the mentality of a 12 year old boy can have gun in their hand to feel powerful. Brilliant.
