I’m not sure how close Michele Bachmann is to Gary DeMar, but they have shared a podium and there is a certain similarity between positions held by Bachmann, her husband1, Bradlee Dean and DeMar.
DeMar has written:
Homosexuals who practice behind closed doors are out-of-bounds for the courts, of course, unless others witness their criminal behavior. Such behavior may not be dealt with by courts in history, but will be dealt with by God, either in history (e.g., AIDS) or eternity. The law that requires the death penalty for homosexual acts effectually drives the perversion of homosexuality underground, back to the closet, to the dark realm of shameful activity.
…
…we must elect public officials who say they will vote for Biblical laws. First and foremost, this means voting to prohibit abortion. While few Christians are willing to go this far, the longterm goal should be the execution of abortionists and parents who hire them. If we argue that abortion is murder, then we must call for the death penalty. If abortionists are not supposed to be executed, then they are not murderers, and if they are not murderers, why do we want to abolish abortion? In short, Christians must learn to think consistently.
DMB has the details here and Joe My God does too.
This guy really wants to kill all the gays, and he really is part of Bachmann’s “Take Back America” movement. And by “Take Back America” I think they mean “Take American From The Sane People.”

1I mention Michele’s husband because she has explicitly stated that according to her deeply held belief system, she runs all of her decisions by her husband for approval, and it appears that he has veto power. Thus, no consideration of Michele’s stance on issues or ability to perform in office can ever be made without a consideration of his as well. This is unfortunate and rather medieval, but true.
It’s lovely that this biblical law isn’t any different than the sharia law they seem to fear and hate so much. We’re lucky they oppose each other’s identical views instead of joining forces or we’d be in trouble.
Yeah, I suppose that is a major advantage of people making it up as they go along!
When I’m elected President, equal marriage rights will be extended to every adult, regardless of sexual orientation. A Bachmann Administration will be a No Pedophilia, No Bestiality, and No Vegetable Fornication Administration. I promise to open up every public schools’ curriculum so that all forms of sexual expression, in existence at that time, will be taught. I have a plan that will rid our schools of the evil scourge of bullying, and if it comes back we will extinguish it again and again. And you liberal voters, listen up: I promise to abolish all sodomy laws! Sodomy laws are outdated and difficult to prosecute. No one should have to hide in the dark realm of shameful activity! And I promise you that no one ever will again! And I am so glad that nobody asks me about my jobs plan, or questions me about what I thought I was doing in Congress, or mentions that I have not shown any interest, none at all, in foreign policy. Or domestic policy, either, unless I had a chance to be obnoxious about something Obama wanted, like light bulbs or health care for everybody. So thanks for not asking about the important stuff!
The Religious Right’s “I Have A Dream” speech.
You leap to link Bachman to these words just because her husband shared a podium once with him? That is insane! What a leap!
Joe, thanks for pointing that out. If you look closely at the blog post, I have a superscripted “1” all ready for a footnote about that specific point. But then I forgot to put in the footnote. I will do so as soon as I can, prob. in a few minutes from now.
Somehow, we need to get the mainstream media on these stories. Bachmann and Perry are dominionists, and if elected will do what they can to make this kind of thinking mainstream. These people do not care about the Constitution, they care about their imaginary deity and their interpretation of Biblical law.
“If we argue that abortion is murder, then we must call for the death penalty.”
Very true. That’s why I look forward to Gary DeMar calling for all women who have miscarriages to be imprisoned for manslaughter. Oh wait…
It’s somewhat.. well, refreshing to see the opinions written out so bluntly. Kill the gays (and God sent AIDS to help with that), kill the abortion providers and the parents who seek abortion, vote for leaders who will insert Biblical laws into the laws of the land…
It’s no secret that these are the things certain groups are going for, they just seem to mask it better most of the time. It’s impossible for me to understand why people follow these opinions and vote for people like this, however.
“If we argue that abortion is murder, then we must call for the death penalty.”
I wonder when DeMar will start calling for women who miscarry to be imprisoned for manslaughter…
In the second quote, DeMar clearly advocates the execution of abortion providers and their clients.
That quote is scary enough. The first one, not so much.
In the first quote, DeMar does not advocate the execution of homosexuals (nor oppose it, for that matter). He points out that a death penalty for homosexual activity would drive that activity underground, back to the closet. I expect we can all agree with that prediction, apart from the hateful and inflammatory rhetoric he uses to express it. To point out an obvious consequence of a proposed law is not the same as advocating it.
The DMB site includes a video where DeMar compares homosexual behavior to eating shellfish. His point is that the Old Testament clearly treats homosexuality as a graver offense than eating shellfish, because it prescribes a penalty for the former (i.e. death) but not for the latter.
So he acknowledges that the Old Testament declares homosexual behavior to be a capital offense, and he’s right about that. But nowhere in the video does he advocate the same policy for any modern society.
DeMar is clearly a vile and contemptible nut case, and it wouldn’t surprise me if he favors the death penalty for homosexuals. He may very well have said so somewhere. But he didn’t say it in the quote provided, nor in the video mentioned earlier.
If you want to call him out for advocating the death penalty for homosexuals, show us where he has advocated it. Reading between the lines doesn’t count.
What a charmer. (eyeroll.)
This is meant to be a Christian approach? Didn’t Rabbi Jesus say something about forgiveness and “let he is without sin cast the first stone.”
Didn’t he even forgive those who had called for and had him wrongly executed calling out among his last words : “Forgive them Father, they know not what they do.”
I think Bachmann, Gary DeMar and her other supporting buddies here FAIL at Christianity, FAIL at human compassion and understanding and FAIL at being decent human beings generally. 🙁
She (& Perry & Palin) won’t be elected – surely they won’t be. Surely the USA knows & insists on better than this?

Right penalties, wrong God?
I dont think they’re views are *quite* identical – I haven’t yet seen them advocate burkas or homicide suicde bombers or call for genocide against Israel – but there are certainly some disturbing parallels.
D’oh! Typos.
“they’re” is meant to be “their” & homicide-Suicide bombers also.
Too tired. Time for bed for me.
Just had a look at this link from here :
http://wthrockmorton.com/2011/08/29/what-would-dominionists-do-with-gays/
From there this :
I .. uh.. what .. SERIOUSLY?!?
In the year 2011? In the United States? I don’t believe it.
Wow. 😮
WANKER
Yes I know it’s childish, but it’s how I feel.
They keep on saying this, proving they haven’t bothered to read the Bible. What does it say about abortion? 1. It is mentioned as part of war; ripping pregnant women up the bellies with a sword. (Example – I Kings 15:16) This is not what qualifies as abortion at this time; the current intent is to keep the mother alive.
Or, 2: Abortion as unintended consequence of a fight. No big deal. Pay the father a fine. One verse only. (Exodus 21:22)
That’s it. The Bible says nothing about prohibiting abortion, nothing about penalties for abortion with intent. And yet preachers keep on telling us it is an important part of Biblical Christianity.
I don’t think they care what the Bible says, at all.
He’s suggesting that parents who hire, or try to, an ‘abortionist’ should be executed? So, what; do we wait until the baby has been born and then kill its Father and Mother? Who, then, cares for the now-Orphan? Of course, once the sprog is born, these folk don’t give a shit, apart from not wanting to spend any money on giving the kid a decent, warm, caring upbringing and education.
Insode the womb, it’s a beautiful soul, beloved by god. Outside, it’s suddenly unwanted and despised. Mmmm, Christian love!
