I have been told that if a man owns a gun and he does not secure it, and his child gets the gun and blows away his other child, that the man has suffered enough, there need be no regulation or law or investigation or charges related to his carelessness. Just let it be. He has suffered enough. His lack of regard for safety should not be punished just because it led to a death, because it makes him feel really really bad. So just drop it.

Face facts: People are too stupid to be allowed guns
Chaz Ursamanno shot himself in the head demonstrating to his girlfriend that his gun was empty. And he did it twice. Barber Kurt Voelkel was shot in the ass when a customer’s pistol fell out of his pants and went up. The bullet went clear through the barber’s chair, wallet, and butt. Well, actually, it stayed in his butt. In Oklahoma, two slack jawed yokels decided to “target practice” with no idea what was beyond the trees lining the field they were shooting in. What was there was a farmer and his little nephew. The nephew got to watch as David Reed’s chest was pierced fatally with a stray bullet. Six year old Zykria Hackett of Greenwood, South Carolina, which is the stoopedest state in the US, was shot and killed by her grand-daddy’s gun while waiting to go to a pre-church breakfast. The granddaddy had stashed little Zykria and two other young children in the van and while they were waiting for him, the kids found his gun and decided to play with it. There will be no charges.
Fallacy: Something Else is Worse, so Don’t Worry
Which is worse, being in the basement of a low-lying Nuclear Power Plant during a Tsunami, pulling the trigger on a gun you thought was empty and accidentally killing your 4 year old little sister, being hit by a German Satellite, or being eaten by a shark?

Why Guns Need To Be Controlled
Delbert Huber, an 81-year old Kandiyohi County Minnesota man, got into a verbal argument with 43 year old Timoth Larson. Huber settled the dispute by blasting Larson with his gun. Larson is dead. Larson was a special ed teacher at St. Michael-Albertville Middle School West.
Twenty Two year old Mattisha Houston killed Joseph Wells in Houston. She was shooting at a tree in her back yard, missed the tree, and Wells was killed while watching his TV.
Timothy Huber, the son of Delbert was also arrested. [source]
This is not the usual sort of thing I like to point out, but since it was close to home I thought I’d mention it .

Johnnie Flow armed herself with a handgun last February, because she felt her family was being threatened. The gun was not legal, and apparently there was no attempt at safety training.
Then, her 3 year old son go thold of the gun and shot her other kid, 2-year old Payton, in the stomach.
Johnie says:
“I’m not a bad mother,” Flow said. “Anybody who knows me knows my babies mean the world to me. That was just a freak accident.”
Ah, Johnnie, sorry, no. You are a bad mother. That was not a freak accident. That was you having a loaded gun that was not locked away. You turned one of your kids into a victim of gun violence, and the other into a perp. That does not mean that you can’t be a good mother, but just saying that you are a good mother because you want it to be true is a stupid as leaving a loaded gun in reach of your toddlers.
Also, you are reproducing too fast. Slow down.
The victim was release from the hospital on Saturday.

Is gun control racist?
That’s actually not the correct question. The answer to “Is gun control racist?” is no, because if I ask you that question, you assume I mean current modern day gun control efforts in the United States. If anything, gun control is the opposite of racist, give who is most affected by lack of it, ans who most wants more of it, and the nature of the pro-gun lobby when it comes to issues of race.

Teenagers Shooting Teenagers
Since I’ve last mentioned teenagers shooting teenagers with guns by accident, there have been a number of interesting events.
It seems that a 17 year old teenager in Carrick, Pennsylvania was shot by a friend on Sunday, in an apartment next to an elementary school. At first the kid told police that it was a drive-by shooter that got him, but later fessed up. He was not badly hurt, but there is no news yet on if it was Dad’s Gun or some other weapon.

Maddow on NRA, Obama and Fox
OMG, this is so funny:
On Friday’s edition of her MSNBC program Rachel Maddow highlighted a variety of right-wing extremist activities on gun related issues, including National Rifle Association (NRA) executive vice-president Wayne LaPierre’s increasingly infamous suggestion that because President Obama hasn’t pursued gun control he must be secretly plotting to “erase the Second Amendment.”

Yet Another Teen Dies Because Daddy Did Not Lock Up The Guns
This one is here in Minnesota, in Chisago County, near the town of Lindstrom.
A 15 year old was found bleeding from the neck by the Sheriff deputies who were called to the shooting. He was pronounced dead a short time later at the hosptical.
He was shot accidentially by his 16 year old friend. It appears they were playing with a .22 caliber rifle. There were no adults around at the time. The Sheriff notes that this could have been avoided had the gun been locked up.
True. But future instances could also be avoided if the owner of the gun is charged with endangerment.

In the United States, you have a right to “bear arms.” This has a special meaning which has largely been distorted by the courts, but nonetheless stands as a fundamental. Many gun owners, unfortunately, not only abuse this right but also go far beyond gun ownership to do things that while technically allowable under the First Amendment, are wrong, and that they should not do.
