A small group of us, including at least two IT workers who are not homophobic, went to the Varsity, which is one of the oft’ used venues of Cafe Scientific, to see the revitalized Squirrel Nut Zippers. Ben Zvan, who is the only photographer I’ve ever heard compared to Jesus Christ (who apparently was one kick ass photographer, to the extend that he existed) was on the scene. You can see a sampling of his shots here. And here’s one:
I recognized about a dozen faces in the crowd, but the only person I really had a chance to speak with was blog commenter Serena. Nice to see you Serena!
Nice pictures.
“who is the only photographer I’ve ever heard compared to Jesus Christ (who apparently was one kick ass photographer, to the extend that he existed)”
Actually, one of my favorite comedy lines runs along this idea:
“If Jesus really was a carpenter, he must have worked for the city, since there’s no record he every actually made anything.”
What does ‘not being homophobic’ have to do with enjoying the Squirrel Nut Zippers? I would have thought that both normal people and the homophobic would be able to enjoy their music!
Anon: You have to read EVERY WORD of my blog (including comments) to get every single one of the innuendos, references, and jokes.
And sometimes Facebook. And sometimes listen to your music collection. And sometimes read your library. And sometimes attend the right meetups. And sometimes….
Hint: Almost all of my musical references can be understood with a few Margaritas in the right company. If you know what I mean. Unless they’re serious, then they’re either Dylan or Indigo Girls.
Very nicely done.
Excellent photos by Ben Zvan! The lighting and contrast turned out great. If I have an opportunity to see Squirrel Nut Zippers perform, I’ll definitely be there. They’re one of my favorite “underappreciated” musical groups. (Firing up Lugubrious Whing Whang as I post.)
