Debbie the Blogger on Natural Transitioningâ„¢

Debbie is a friend that I KNOW has a lot of blog posts in her. I have special powers, I can see these things. And she’s told me that she wants to write more, and I strongly sense this is more than a half baked idea; It might even be a need. Or at least, a fully baked idea.

So, I’m very happy to see that Debbie caught a break. Our mutual friend, Amy, was kidnapped by Pirates, and her blog had an open space in it so Debbie has jumped in to fill it with a very interesting post on gender transitioning vis-a-vis the Naturalistic Fallacy. Have a look:

NATURAL TRANSITIONING FOR FTMs

Are You Funding the Fundies? Yes. Here is what to do about it:

For weeks, you and other All Out members have been urging companies to cut ties with CVN (also known as CGBG) – a site that allows customers to donate a portion of their online purchases to ‘charities’ – including several anti-gay groups such as Focus on the Family (FotF) and Family Research Council (FRC). Because of our efforts, dozens of major companies have dropped off the network!

But now these groups have taken notice and they are telling their supporters to directly contact companies like Apple, Macy’s, Microsoft and Netflix and push them to re-join CVN. These companies have come out in support of LGBT rights, but are now the targets of a powerful hate machine.

Interesting Developments in Gay Marriage in Minneosta

Minnesota Atheists is involved in a very interesting legal fight pertaining to same-sex marriage. On learning of recent developments in this case, I asked Mike Haubrich, who knows much more about it than I do, if he would write a guest post telling you all about it. Same sex marriage is an issue that demands effective activism, and the action being taken by Mn Atheists is an excellent example of this. Oh, and feel free to donate to the MN Atheist legal fund.

Don’t Ask Don’t Tell Don’t Matter No More

Don’t Ask Don’t Tell may well have been a good idea at the time. It was a step beyond “Find Out, Beat Up, Throw Out.” Thank you Bill Clinton for that improvement.

A lot of people don’t realize that DADT was not a Clinton Administration Policy but rather, eventually, a law passed by Congress. As long as a person I like is in the Oval Office, I might be happy with the arrangement that if the President does not like a law, he or she just eliminates it unilaterally. But, actually, that can’t happen without certain other things happening. Also, laws usually get implemented somehow through policy or regulation, which itself is complex.

To me, a litmus test of how well someone understood the democratic process in the US was whether or not they were screaming at Obama to eliminate DADT, the law, unilateralism. I mean, seriously, think about this. A black guy out jogging. Impeachable offense. Teabaggers in power. Connect the dots, people.

But all this is moot today. Don’t Ask Don’t Tall don’t matter no more.

If Marriage is a Sacred Bond between Man and Woman ….

This finger needs a ring! (soure)
… then it’s OK if the ‘woman’ is a guy in drag, right?

The couple walked into a Norfolk courthouse on a spring day, exchanged a few words, and within 10 minutes, were seemingly husband and wife.It was an unremarkable ceremony – except that several weeks later, officials realized the shapely bride might not have been a woman. Now authorities in Virginia, where same-sex marriages are illegal, are weighing whether to file misdemeanor charges against the couple, Antonio E. Blount, 31, and Justin L. McCain, 18. An announcement is expected this week.

Read the whole story here. The people who are insisting that marriage is only valid if it is people of different sexes are asking for it. It might, in many states, be easier to recognize gender orientations beyond hetero male and female as additional ‘sexes’ (in courts) than to get legislatures to pass non-discriminatory bills.Just as interesting would be the reaction in some legislatures…. Lesbians Smooching at Ball Game Disturbs Fan

…. in Seattle.

last week, a lesbian complained that an usher at Safeco Field asked her to stop kissing her date because it was making another fan uncomfortable. The incident has exploded on local TV, on talk radio and in the blogosphere and has touched off a debate over public displays of affection in generally gay-friendly Seattle….As the Mariners played the Boston Red Sox on May 26, Sirbrina Guerrero and her date were approached in the third inning by an usher who told them their kissing was inappropriate, Guerrero said. The usher, Guerrero said, told them he had received a complaint from a woman nearby who said that there were kids in the crowd of nearly 36,000 and that parents would have to explain why two women were kissing.

Hmmm, that’s a tough one. How about “Well, maybe they are in love….” (Even if it is just as likely that they are actually in lust … who could know?)source

Gay Marriage Across the Border

Recognition of marriages across political boundaries is a long standing, virtually global tradition .,.. perhaps one of the earliest non-refugee related mundane global practices … to cross borders to get married. The distinction between ceremony and recognition is well established. This does not always mean that marriages are so recognized, but more often than not, they are.i-3066e55500934b411d04404a24182b6c-gay_marriage_01.jpgWhy are we talking about this? I’m expanding on a discussion happening here regarding the recognition of marriages (in particular gay marriage), celebrated elsewhere, by New York State.
