Trump has no shame, but that’s OK

We now know that Trump told the wife of a fallen Green Beret that the soldier knew what he signed up for. Technically true, but not what a real president says to a newly minted widow.

We now also know that he told the father of a fallen soldier, one who died in Afghanistan, that he, Trump, would send him $25,000 cash. He never did that.

Trump has claimed that he’s called each of the 30 or so American military personnel who have died since Trump took office. Reports are that he may have not called about half of them.

But that’s OK, because the right wing, who would have crucified a President Clinton over this sort of thing, will not be mad at Trump. Rather, they will simply start to believe that respecting the fallen soldiers is not necessary. Like the same individuals have decided that the NFL is bogus, because they oppose Trump.

This is because Trump’s main reason to exist, in the eyes of his deplorable followers, is to oppose things, mainly Obama. But other things too. Other things including whatever occurs to him.

Trump is truly changing America. He is making American something again. Not sure what that thing is. Or if it really anything again. But, that is clearly how it works now.

  1. President Trump’s callousness is not a new attitude toward the military. Years ago, when President Bush was still waging the war and young men and women were being called for repeated deployments, I had two guys in a class who had each served a couple deployments. I walked into the classroom one day to find them and a third kid toe to toe, almost at blows. The story was that both of the military guys had received notice that they were going to be
going over again. They were talking with each other before class about the difficulty this would cause with work, school, and family. The other kid had jumped into the conversation, and the outline I got from them and other students was that it went something like this.

Kid: “I don’t want to hear you two complain about going over there. You should be honored to defend the country.”

Soldier 1: “If it’s such an honor why don’t you sign up and go?”

Kid: “As long as there are guys like you to do it I don’t have to.”

That was just before I got there, when the two soldiers were still pissed enough to consider beating the kid’s ass.
Same attitude President Trump and much of the folks on the right have today. Right in line with the famous

It isn’t a matter of money. It isn’t a matter on the part of the army of desire. It’s a matter of production and capability of doing it. As you know, ah, you go to war with the army you have—not the army you might want or wish to have at a later time.

the monumentally disgusting Rumsfeld trotted out years ago.

(I managed to stop the kid from getting clobbered in the classroom: I essentially convinced the two guys that it would be more trouble for them that it would be worth, and would leave me with an immense amount of paperwork to file.)

  2. “I talked to the general coming out here about the pace at which the vehicles are being armored. They have been brought from all over the world, wherever they’re not needed, to a place where they are needed. I’m told that they are being … I think it’s something like 400 a month are being done. And it’s essentially a matter of physics. It isn’t a matter of money. It isn’t a matter, on the part of the Army, of desire. It’s a matter of production and capability of doing it.

“As you know, you go to war with the Army you have. They’re not the Army you might want or wish to have at a later time. Since the Iraq conflict began, the Army has been pressing ahead to produce the armor necessary at a rate they believe … it’s a greatly expanded rate from what existed previously, but a rate that they believe is the rate that is all that can be accomplished at this moment.

“I can assure you that Gen. Schoomaker and the leadership in the Army and certainly Gen. Whitcomb are sensitive to the fact that not every vehicle has the degree of armor that would be desirable for it to have, but that they’re working at it at a good clip…”

You should have done the paperwork.

    1. Weird attempt to, what — defend the president and Rumsfeld? Doesn’t work.

“You should have done the paperwork.”

And allowed the two of them get into shitloads of trouble, right? Possibly get kicked out of school? Get in trouble with the military? Maybe have charges filed if the other kid was vindictive? That’s some real poor thinking there.

  3. Listening to Maddow’s coverage today of this appalling behaviour by Trump, and also to the questioning of Jeff Sessions about the Russia collusion affair, I can only shake my head again that the USA appears to have no adequate mechanism to hold accountable (and remove as required) politicians who are blatantly corrupting their governance of a nation – especially to the point that the nation is being irreparably harmed in the global context.

  4. Well, so the stupid people won one. Not the usual stupid people, but the REALLY stupid people. Ok, so it had to happen sooner or later. What fascinates me is, will President Dumpster get re-elected? Did the really stupid people just get lucky this once, or are they really taking over? Think you’re depressed now? Wait until after the next election.

  5. Greg: Trump is truly changing America. He is making American something again.

The word you want there is the verb “grate.”

  6. Just a thought on what Phil above mentioned. Stupid people. I find it a curious thing how stupidity is sorta stratified into different areas of um, ability?
Its not as if most Trump voters cant ride a bicycle, or operate a complex motorcar. Some certainly are rocket scientists with NASA, or surgeons or logistics experts or
surveyors or entomologists or have really good parenting skills or conflict resolution abilities or any number of talents. And yet; clearly they are fucking stupid. Dumb as dogshit.
How does such a dichotomy come to be?
Things being equal; I wouldnt expect Trump supporters to be able to tie shoelaces, or prepare meals. And yet they can. Its interesting anyhow this sort of stratification. ..

  7. ANOTHER LIBTARD RAG ARTICLE. THERE IS NO WAY THAT EVEN NEWS MEDIA COULD GET THIS INFO. AS CERTIFIABLE TRUTH. THE MEDIA HAS HAD IT IN FOR #45 SINCE THE BEGINNING. LIBERALS ARE SO GULLIBLE TO BELIEVE ANYTHING THAT IS IN PRINT. BECAUSE IT IS IN THE MEDIA, WHETHER IN PRINT OR VERBAL, DOESN’T MAKE IT TRUTHFUL TODAY.
