Elizabeth Edwards has Died.

Elizabeth Edwards — who catapulted into the public eye in 2004, when her husband, Sen. John Edwards, ran for president and was John Kerry’s running mate on the Democratic ticket, has died, a close family friend tells NPR. She was 61.

Over the past few years, Edwards wrote two best-selling books, fought a well-publicized battle against cancer and saw her marriage crumble after her husband fathered a child with another woman.

  1. On the plus side, she lived for many nears since her initial cancer diagnosis thanks to medical science. That’s more than can be said for Kim Tinkham…

  2. She had decided that she didn’t believe in god because of the tragedies in her life, according to Jonathan Alter. She applied the Epicurean model and reasoned that it didn’t make sense to pray for a recovery from cancer if the god she would have been praying to couldn’t even prevent a kid dying in a car accident.
