My congressperson embarrasses me, as does my neighbor

Both Erik Paulsen, my representative to the US congress, and Michele Bachmann, the infamous insane person who represents my neighbors a few blocks away, have elected to vote against worker’s health compensation for 9/11 first responders.

And they dare to call themselves Americans!!!

It is God’s plan that you bear the child of your rapist

I heard a white male blogger said something, or failed to say something, or whatever. So, let’s pile on and verbally pound him for a while! Because, you know, there is nothing worse going on in the world when it comes to buying and selling (with money or votes) women’s freedoms!!!

Will a Minnesota Congressional Race become a Holy War?

It seems that the Republican Candidate running for the Fifth Congressional District seat in Minnesota has one main political objective: To replace the sitting Democratic member of congress, Keith Ellison, explicitly because he, Ellison, is a “Moslem.” The purpose of this candidacy is, explicitly, an effort to “take back” America (from the “Moslems”) and “bring her to her knees” as a Christian Nation.

Also, and again, explicitly, this candidate has no specific policy positions because he expects God to place those policy positions in his mouth at the appropriate times, as per Matthew 10: 18-20.

I am not making this up. The details are here.

I have no idea how one is expected to observe this sort of asinine idiocy and not respond with a certain degree of vitriol. This is not a time to be polite or to engage in strategic civil conversation. It is a time to ridicule the fool for what it is, to complain loudly and harshly about a political party that can play such awful, offensive games with our democratic process.

Anything less would not be helping. At all.

Erik Paulsen is my representative to the US Congress. This is his first term. He replaced a very centrist Republican (Jim Ramstad) who retired honorably. I worked for the Democratic Party (DFL, we call it in Minnesota) candidate, Ash Madia during that election. Ash was a good candidate but he was inexperienced (which may or may not have been a factor) not quite waspy enough for this very waspy district (which may or may not have been a factor), and although his politics matched those of the district’s constituents quite well (at least as well as the long-lasting Jim Ramstad’s politics did) he was probably viewed as too liberal and people chose the “centrist” candidate Erik Paulsen.
