What Churchill Said
“I have, myself, full confidence that if all do their duty, if nothing is neglected, and if the best arrangements are made, as they are being made, we shall prove ourselves once again able to defend our Island home, to ride out the storm of war, and to outlive the menace of tyranny, if necessary for years, if necessary alone. … Even though large tracts of Europe and many old and famous States have fallen or may fall into the grip of the Gestapo and all the odious apparatus of Nazi rule, we shall not flag or fail. We shall go on to the end, we shall fight in France, we shall fight on the seas and oceans, we shall fight with growing confidence and growing strength in the air, we shall defend our Island, whatever the cost may be, we shall fight on the beaches, we shall fight on the landing grounds, we shall fight in the fields and in the streets, we shall fight in the hills; we shall never surrender, and even if, which I do not for a moment believe, this Island or a large part of it were subjugated and starving, then our Empire beyond the seas, armed and guarded by the British Fleet, would carry on the struggle, until, in God’s good time, the New World, with all its power and might, steps forth to the rescue and the liberation of the old.”
What Trump Said
“Now the Democrats are politicizing the coronavirus. … One of my people came up to me and said, ‘Mr. President, they tried to beat you on Russia, Russia, Russia.’ That didn’t work out too well. They couldn’t do it. They tried the impeachment hoax. That was on a perfect conversation. They tried anything, they tried it over and over. … And this is their new hoax.”
Churchill’s quote “You don’t need to worry about the German Air Force or the buzz bombs. They aren’t accurate and will go away soon.” isn’t included here.
Oh, wait.
Not related to trump or Churchill: reread Hunter S. Thompson’s September 11 themed bit in “Rube”, written roughly one day after the attacks. Two key paragraphs:
On to better news – the latest polls show that the gap between Biden and Trump for registered voters is now 10% – with Trump’s disparaging of veterens and brazen lies over the seriousness of the pandemic clearly hurting him. If Trump is to win, as one of his cult members (RickA) believes, then he has to overturn this massive gap in only 7 weeks. At this stage in 2016 he was only 3 per cent behind Clinton and he barely scraped through while overwhelmingly losing the popular vote. If he wins this time it will be also by the skin of his teeth – but it looks ever likely that the orange stain and hus criminal family will be booted out.
Let’s keep hoping.
Just saw this CNN article and thought it made some very good points:

Here is another good story:

Wow – CNN has sure changed their tune in the last day or so.
I am voting in person! I want my vote to count, and preferably on election night (not two weeks later).
I noticed that trump has declared his comments were similar in tone and delivery to those Churchill gave when he went onto rooftops in London and told people “everything is going to be good”.
Of course, he had to lie — Churchill never did that, but as we see with trump and his two supporters here, lying about everything is all they have.
