The Art of Melania Trump’s Deal

When I first heard of this book I assumed it would be a prurient one-off by some hack reporter. Turns out it is a well researched and important contribution to the story of the metastasizing Trump “Presidency.”

“Based on interviews with more than one hundred people in five countries, The Art of Her Deal: The Untold Story of Melania Trump draws an unprecedented portrait of the first lady. While her public image is of an aloof woman floating above the political gamesmanship of Washington, behind the scenes Melania Trump is not only part of President Trump’s inner circle, but for some key decisions she has been his single most influential adviser.”

The Art of Her Deal: The Untold Story of Melania Trump by Mary Jordan, Washington Post reporter.

  1. Not knowing much of her background I always thought she might be a Putin plant. This sounds very interesting but too expensive for my pensions.

  2. Using her position as First Lady, she’s apparently gotten her relatives into the country as immigrants so she has shown some aptitude for politics (getting something useful (to her) done by others).

  3. “…for some key decisions she has been his single most influential adviser”.

Given what a train wreck the Trump administration has been, I am not sure that I would like to see this blurb in the descriptor if I was her. Besides, what decisions? Injecting bleach to reduce the risk of Covid-19 infection? Calling countries in the developing world ‘shitholes’? Delisting dozens of species and populations from the endangered category? Pushing to eviscerate regulations protecting the air and water? Sanctioning countries thar do not submit to the will of the global hegemon? Downplaying the risk of Covid-19 becoming a pandemic? More tax cuts for the rich? What advice?

As Sherlock Holmes might say — if he weren’t fictional and were alive: If you eliminate what Don-the-Con harvests from Sean Hannity and other “pundits” on Faux News and from ultra-right-wing media and blogs, whatever remains, no matter how idiotic or cruel, may be Milania’s contribution.

I say this because there is little evidence to suggest that he ever had an original idea. (I’m willing to be corrected.)

  4. Step into an arena where everyone is ALL about power and greed…period. Better keep eyes wide open. Better be a player too….
