Turns out the blast from the sun was less severe than thought. It is apparently difficult or impossible to measure the magnetic energy associated with a plasma cloud to the level necessary to make a prediction about how it will affect the Earth. This plasma cloud was less magnetically active than usual for its size. A similar event a few years back knocked out power grids, messed with satellites, etc. annd this one did not do as much as expected.
I’m told the aurora will remain in Canadian territories tonight around here.
