It used to be that there were always a few good Republicans to be found, even though the party as a whole represents the oppressors and yahoos 99% of the time. That’s hardly ever true today, except of course in the state of Maine:
Maine Republican Senators Olympia Snowe and Susan Collins, two of the Republican party’s only moderate voices left and who have broken with the party in the past on health related issues, voiced their support of President Obama’s compromise on contraception.

I don’t understand why they don’t switch parties. It would make more sense.
Cue the chorus of “No True Republican would do that” coming from the farther right.
The Onion, as usual, nails it:

I considered myself a Republican more than half my life (60+years so far.) I never left the party. It left me. It’s nice there are still a couple of sensible ones left but as #1 says, why don’t they just switch?
The best part about this is that Obama’s rule was originally Olympia Snowe’s idea back in 2001.
Moderation and consistency…y’know, I wonder if Snowe’s days as a Republican are numbered.
