This blog does more than sit there … blogging. Sometimes it reaches out and does something real. And this year, GLB sponsored (in part) a runner in the Grandma’s Marathon, in Duluth, MN.
Asha Shoffner ran the half marathon with a time of 1:48:14. This is Asha’s Blog. The producers, writers, and staff of Greg Laden’s blog are very proud to have had this opportunity.
A half mile in a time of 1m 48s would be a world record for a woman, at least at the sort-of equivalent metric distance of 800m. And there’s that whole trailing :14 not accounted for. So I’m going to assume this is a “half marathon,” rather than a half mile, with the stated time in hours/minutes/seconds. Which is certainly respectable, and better than I could do, but not mind-bogglingly fast.
thanks greg. and as your friend said, not “mind boggling fast”.
Congratulations, Asha. That’s a hell of an accomplishment.
I didn’t mean for my earlier comment to sound as snarky as it did; apologies for that. I wasn’t trying to belittle Asha’s accomplishment. I was just curious because of the earlier error (now corrected) that the time was for a half mile, rather than for a half marathon.
In any event, yes, congratulations! 🙂
John, I’m sure there is no problem. Just my stupid mistake.
I’ve seen Asha SIT through a half mile faster than that…..
