6 thoughts on “Did Cliff Predict Obama?”
Okay, after studying that second video frame by frame, I’ve figured it out. When Alex asks Cliff why he would bet everything when he was so far ahead, Cliff answered that it was because he knew that those people had never been in his kitchen. But that couldn’t have been the reason! He placed his wager before he saw the final clue. Blatant continuity error!!!
I just knew that you wouldn’t go for some mundane misplaced shot from a future scene like in Pulp Fiction where the bullet holes in the wall appear before the shooting, or in Pretty Woman where Richard Gere’s tie disappears before Julia Roberts takes it off, or in Cheers where Cliff’s answer is shown before it’s revealed, or in Courage Under Fire where the Medal of Honor disappears then reapears around the daughter’s neck. That would be too obvious!
Pundit, you’re thinking too hard. After Cliff’s answer is rejected, Alex turns to the lawyer and says, “$400 is not a lot of money.” But her total clearly shows $3300 dollars. Then there’s a cutaway, and when the camera returns, the lawyer’s total shows $400. That’s what people in the biz call a continuity error.
HP that is correct! The value shifts from 400 (the correct amount at the end of the game) to 3300, to 400. But, unfortunately, you did not phrase your observation in the form of a question, so you’ve won nothing.
HP got one. There’s another one. Cliff’s answer is revealed on his monitor before it should be, at 3:14. In the next shot of the monitor (3:24) it’s blank.
A question: Is John Ratzenberger an excellent comic actor or was his spot-on characterization of bloviating gasbag Cliff Clavin merely a reflection of his actual persona? Ratzenberger seems determined to stack up evidence for the latter explanation.
