A crowd that includes pirates and gnomes surrounds Jesus. At the bottom its message reads \u201cTouched by an Angelhair.\u201d The scene is the work of the Church of the Flying Spaghetti Monsters.<\/p>\n<p>Near the courthouse fence is  another display whose sign reads \u201dGreetings From Your Friendly Local Atheists.\u201d It\u2019s message is about celebrating the Constitution and honoring the separation of church and state.<\/p>\n<p>Elsewhere on the lawn, a skeleton in a Santa suit hangs on a cross.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/abcnews.go.com\/blogs\/headlines\/2011\/12\/virginia-holiday-battle-includes-church-of-the-flying-spaghetti-monster\/\">abc<\/a>\n<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>They killed Santa?<!--more--><\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_1743\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-1743\" style=\"width: 300px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><a href=\"http:\/\/freethoughtblogs.com\/xblog\/2011\/12\/21\/flying-spaghetti-monster-strikes-again\/nativity1\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-1743\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/freethoughtblogs.com\/xblog\/files\/2011\/12\/nativity1-300x225.jpg?resize=300%2C225\" alt=\"Nativity Scene wit Pasta\" title=\"nativity1\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-1743\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-1743\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Noodley Nativity Scene (from http:\/\/goo.gl\/n3Dtf) with Pirates. <\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>A local politician who was just elected (but not yet installed) as County Supervisor, Kenneith Reid is apoplectic.  <\/p>\n<p>Reid, who happens to be Jewish, claims that the Atheists have totally ruined Christmas, and that by putting their &#8220;beliefes&#8221; out in the open instead of just keeping their dirty godless mouths shut, they are forcing these &#8220;beliefs&#8221; on everyone else.  <\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cNobody is out there preaching like these guys. They\u2019re out there in a blatant attempt to try to stamp out religion and ruin people\u2019s Christmas,\u201d Reid said. \u201cThe atheist groups over the past two years have used it as an opportunity to try to ban everything. It\u2019s no longer sufficient to be an atheist, they have to go out there and proactively try to deny and make sure other people don\u2019t believe in God.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>The atheists have a different take on this:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cThe whole thing is a separation of church and state issue. We\u2019ve been accused of trying to destroy Christmas, and that could not be further from the truth,\u201d Rick Wingrove, the Virginia state director for American Atheists, told ABCNews.com. \u201cThere\u2019s no war on Christmas.
