Two of our local news reporters here in Minnesota, citing the fact that the “Occupy” type protest are not very Minnesotans and alleging that only a few people showed up for them, considered no longer covering them. One of the two reporters wrote a blog post about their conversation:

Reg Chapman and I were talking in the newsroom last night about how the coverage of the protest itself probably should stop fairly soon. Frankly, the fact that crowds haven\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t really mushroomed tells us something about Minnesotans. Perhaps we\u00e2\u20ac\u2122re not really the protesting type; perhaps this crowd of protestors doesn\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t resonate with the middle class working people who are upset about Wall Street, mortgages, bank fees, etc; perhaps it\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s getting cold.<\/p>\n

I’m pretty sure these reporters don’t really get to decide what they cover vs. not, and this is only their expression of opinion (in an appropriate forum, a blog post) but it is somewhat concerning that full time staff reporters on a major networks’s local affiliate (CBS) is not taking Occupy Minnesota seriously. <\/p>\n
