{"id":31017,"date":"2018-11-27T12:36:33","date_gmt":"2018-11-27T18:36:33","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/gregladen.com\/blog\/?p=31017"},"modified":"2018-12-02T12:17:56","modified_gmt":"2018-12-02T18:17:56","slug":"who-is-david-schnare-and-why-should-science-supporters-know-about-him","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/gregladen.com\/blog\/2018\/11\/27\/who-is-david-schnare-and-why-should-science-supporters-know-about-him\/","title":{"rendered":"Who Is David Schnare, and why should science supporters know about him?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>This is something to pay close attention to.<\/p>\n<p>From John Mashey&#8217;s article on DeSmogBlog, out just this morning:<!--more--><\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Lawyer David Schnare has made a career of suing and harassing climate scientists, abusing the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) to demand masses of scientists\u2019 emails and wasting people\u2019s time.<\/p>\n<p>Much of this work has been executed via a dark money-funded 501(c)(3) \u201cpublic charity\u201d called the Energy &#038; Environment Legal Institute (EELI), where he was General Counsel among other roles. <\/p>\n<p>Schnare\u2019s work at EELI was often in conjunction with another shadowy group he founded, the Free Market Environmental Law Clinic (FMELC), which he co-founded in 2011 with long-time associate Chris Horner. These two groups dispute the scientific reality of climate change, and have made a business of targeting climate scientists with invasive and harassing lawsuits.<\/p>\n<p>&#8230;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Then, to dig deep into the weediest of weeds, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.desmogblog.com\/2018\/11\/27\/david-schnare-forced-to-disgorge-dark-money-from-fmelc-piggy-bank\">go read John&#8217;s entire post here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Why is this important? Because the University of Arizona is about to release the emails of several scientists, and it is expected that Schnare is planning to attempt to use the contents of these eimails among the scientist to discredit them, the science, climate science generally, or similar.  So, as Mashey points out, bear his history, and the history of the organizations involved, in mind.<\/p>\n<p>This is a developing story.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>This is something to pay close attention to.
