{"id":25174,"date":"2010-01-29T12:59:16","date_gmt":"2010-01-29T12:59:16","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/scienceblogs.com\/gregladen\/2010\/01\/29\/howard-zinn-is-dead\/"},"modified":"2010-01-29T12:59:16","modified_gmt":"2010-01-29T12:59:16","slug":"howard-zinn-is-dead","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/gregladen.com\/blog\/2010\/01\/29\/howard-zinn-is-dead\/","title":{"rendered":"Howard Zinn is Dead"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Howard Zinn died on Wednesday.<\/p>\n<p>But first, he got very old and before that he inspired two or three generations of skeptics and questioners of history and society.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><br \/>\nOf all the books I&#8217;ve ever given to people, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/gp\/product\/0060838655?ie=UTF8&#038;tag=wwwgregladenc-20&#038;linkCode=as2&#038;camp=1789&#038;creative=9325&#038;creativeASIN=0060838655\">A People&#8217;s History of the United States: 1492 to Present <\/a><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.assoc-amazon.com\/e\/ir?t=wwwgregladenc-20&#038;l=as2&#038;o=1&#038;a=0060838655\" width=\"1\" height=\"1\" border=\"0\" alt=\"\" style=\"border:none !important; margin:0px !important;\" \/>is the one I&#8217;ve given the most copies of to the most people.  I&#8217;ve given it to history teachers and to people who seemed to have an interest in history but needed to know some things.  I gave it to my daughter when she took her first serious history class and told her to carry it on top of her textbook so the teacher would see it and be afraid.  If you have not read it you should.  It is not the only Howard Zinn book you should read, but it is a good start.<\/p>\n<p>I may have to get a new copy, I think I gave my only one away.
