He is incorrect, as Coates points out near the end of the second segment, that there will be a future in which we debate the relative merits of the Trump vs the Obama presidency.  I have no idea what possessed him to day that (I see Hayes slip into the false balance mode now and then when he&#8217;s tired, maybe that&#8217;s what he did there for just a moment).<\/p>\n<p>On the book:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cWe were eight years in power\u201d was the lament of Reconstruction-era black politicians as the American experiment in multiracial democracy ended with the return of white supremacist rule in the South.
