This morning, NOAA has released its data showing that April was actually a bit warmer than I had suggested.<\/p>\n<p>NOAA has <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ncdc.noaa.gov\/sotc\/global\/2014\/03\/\">already stated<\/a> that &#8220;The combined average temperature over global land and ocean surfaces was the fourth highest for <strong>March<\/strong> on record, at 0.71\u00b0C (1.28\u00b0F) above the 20th century average of 12.3\u00b0C (54.1\u00b0F)&#8221; and &#8220;The combined global land and ocean average surface temperature for the January\u2013March period (year-to-date) was 0.60\u00b0C (1.08\u00b0F) above the 20th century average of 12.3\u00b0C (54.1\u00b0F), <strong>the seventh warmest<\/strong> such period on record.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Moments ago, NOAA <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ncdc.noaa.gov\/sotc\/global\/2014\/4\">stated<\/a>: &#8220;The combined average temperature over global land and ocean surfaces for April 2014 tied with 2010 as the highest on record for the month, at 0.77\u00b0C (1.39\u00b0F) above the 20th century average of 13.7\u00b0C (56.7\u00b0F).&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>And, it has been tweeted:<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" lang=\"en\"><p>JUST IN: Apr 2014 global temp ties for record highest per <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/NOAANCDC\">@NOAANCDC<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/search?q=%23StateOfClimate&amp;src=hash\">#StateOfClimate<\/a> Rpt <a href=\"http:\/\/t.co\/8j2efFOPus\">http:\/\/t.co\/8j2efFOPus<\/a> <a href=\"http:\/\/t.co\/wDmHFx4r9K\">pic.twitter.com\/wDmHFx4r9K<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&mdash; NOAA (@NOAA) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/NOAA\/statuses\/468770201484267522\">May 20, 2014<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p>So, 2014 is turning out to be quite a warm year, and this is before <a href=\"http:\/\/scienceblogs.com\/gregladen\/2014\/05\/08\/el-nino-2014-historic\/\">the effects of a very likely El Nin\u00f1o <\/a>have kicked in (see also <a href=\"http:\/\/www.wunderground.com\/blog\/JeffMasters\/comment.html?entrynum=2677\">this<\/a> for more on El Ni\u00f1o).
