{"id":17272,"date":"2013-07-23T14:45:15","date_gmt":"2013-07-23T19:45:15","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/scienceblogs.com\/gregladen\/?p=17272"},"modified":"2013-07-23T14:45:15","modified_gmt":"2013-07-23T19:45:15","slug":"james-hansen-on-nuclear-power","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/gregladen.com\/blog\/2013\/07\/23\/james-hansen-on-nuclear-power\/","title":{"rendered":"James Hansen on Nuclear Power"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>James Hansen, the famous climate scientist and author of <a href=\"http:\/\/scienceblogs.com\/gregladen\/2009\/12\/05\/storms-of-my-grandchildren-by\/\">Storms of my Grandchildren<\/a>, talks about the possible role of nuclear power in addressing climate change, and in particular, reducing the release of fossil carbon into the atmosphere.<\/p>\n<p><object width=\"640\" height=\"360\"><param name=\"movie\" value=\"\/\/www.youtube.com\/v\/CZExWtXAZ7M?version=3&amp;hl=en_US\"><\/param><param name=\"allowFullScreen\" value=\"true\"><\/param><param name=\"allowscriptaccess\" value=\"always\"><\/param><\/object><\/p>\n<p>I think he is far to pessimistic on the use of solar and wind energy than he needs to be and notice that he, and no one else ever, seems to mention geothermal, which could reduce our release of carbon by double digit percentages using existing technology in a few years.
