This alone will not be sufficient&#8211;Congress must pass new laws to address this problem as well, and the citizens of the united states have to make some cultural adjustments&#8211;but it is a start.<\/p>\n<p>Republican Tea Party Congressman Steve Stockman of, where else, Texas, <a href=\"http:\/\/tpmdc.talkingpointsmemo.com\/2013\/01\/impeach-obama-guns-steve-stockman.php\">plans to file <\/a>articles of impeachment against the president in an effort to maintain our current level of gun violence because, I suppose, he likes it when six year old children are gunned down in cold blood.  The people of Stockman&#8217;s Congressional District should hang their collective heads in shame for what they have done.<\/p>\n<p>The Executive Orders are summarized in the following list:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>\n<p>Issue a Presidential Memorandum to require federal agencies to make relevant<br \/>\ndata available to the federal background check system.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>Address unnecessary legal barriers, particularly relating to the Health Insurance<br \/>\nPortability and Accountability Act, that may prevent states from making<br \/>\ninformation available to the background check system.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>Improve incentives for states to share information with the background check<br \/>\nsystem.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>Direct the attorney general to review categories of individuals prohibited from<br \/>\nhaving a gun to make sure dangerous people are not slipping through the cracks.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>Propose rulemaking to give law enforcement the ability to run a full background<br \/>\ncheck on an individual before returning a seized gun.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>Publish a letter from ATF to federally licensed gun dealers providing guidance on<br \/>\nhow to run background checks for private sellers.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>Launch a national safe and responsible gun ownership campaign.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>Review safety standards for gun locks and gun safes (Consumer Product Safety<br \/>\nCommission).<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>Issue a Presidential Memorandum to require federal law enforcement to trace guns<br \/>\nrecovered in criminal investigations.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>Release a DOJ report analyzing information on lost and stolen guns and make it<br \/>\nwidely available to law enforcement.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>Nominate an ATF director.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>Provide law enforcement, first responders, and school officials with proper<br \/>\ntraining for active shooter situations.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>Maximize enforcement efforts to prevent gun violence and prosecute gun crime.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>Issue a Presidential Memorandum directing the Centers for Disease Control to<br \/>\nresearch the causes and prevention of gun violence.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>Direct the attorney general to issue a report on the availability and most effective<br \/>\nuse of new gun safety technologies and challenge the private sector to develop<br \/>\ninnovative technologies.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>Clarify that the Affordable Care Act does not prohibit doctors asking their patients<br \/>\nabout guns in their homes.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>Release a letter to health care providers clarifying that no federal law prohibits<br \/>\nthem from reporting threats of violence to law enforcement authorities.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>Provide incentives for schools to hire school resource officers.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>Develop model emergency response plans for schools, houses of worship and<br \/>\ninstitutions of higher education.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>Release a letter to state health officials clarifying the scope of mental health<br \/>\nservices that Medicaid plans must cover.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>Finalize regulations clarifying essential health benefits and parity requirements<br \/>\nwithin ACA exchanges.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>Commit to finalizing mental health parity regulations.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>Launch a national dialogue led by Secretaries Sebelius and Duncan on mental<br \/>\nhealth.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>President Barack Obama has signed 23 Executive Orders intended to reduce gun violence in the United States.
