Here&#8217;s a recent snapshot:<br \/>\n<figure id=\"attachment_13246\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-13246\" style=\"width: 300px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/scienceblogs.com\/gregladen\/files\/2012\/08\/GULFVS.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/scienceblogs.com\/gregladen\/files\/2012\/08\/GULFVS-300x200.jpg?resize=300%2C200\" alt=\"\" title=\"GULFVS\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-13246\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-13246\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Hurricane Isaac<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/p>\n<p>The current track puts Isaac just southwest of New Orleans with the heaviest winds and storm surge along the outer reaches of the delta and Lake Pontchartrain.<\/p>\n<p>Expect a storm surge in Southeastern Louisiana and Mississippi east of where the landfall occurs of 6-12 feet, with diminishing storm surge reaching as far as the Florida West Coast.  Rainfall will be between 7 and 14 inches across a large area, with isolated areas being potentially much more.  Sustained winds of 70 mph and more, up to 110 mph, will affect coastal areas.
