Not so much a fantasy as stuff of nightmares.

Donald Trump has added a morbid new distinction to his presidency – for the first time in US history, the federal government has in one year executed more American civilians than all the states combined.

In the course of 2020, in an unprecedented glut of judicial killing, the Trump administration rushed to put 10 prisoners to death. The execution spree ran roughshod over historical norms and stood entirely contrary to the decline in the practice of the death penalty that has been the trend in the US for several years.

The outlier nature of the Trump administration’s thirst for blood is set out in the year-end report of the Death Penalty Information Center (DPIC). In recent years, the annual review has highlighted the steady withering away of executions, all of which were carried out by individual states.

...

But the overwhelming story of the federal executions in 2020 was the disdain shown by the Trump administration towards established norms, and its determination to push the death penalty to the limits of decency even by standards set by those who support the practice.

Since Trump lost the election on 3 November, the federal government has put to death three prisoners: Orlando Hall, Brandon Bernard and Alfred Bourgeois. The last time a lame-duck president presided over an execution was in 1889, when the Grover Cleveland administration killed a Choctaw Indian named Richard Smith.

All three Trump lame-duck executions involved black men. As the DPIC review points out, racial disparities remain prominent in the roll call of the dead, as they have for decades, with almost half of those executed being people of color.

These brain-dead cultists are so pathetic. It makes me wonder just what sort of mental hypnosis Trump exerts over these morons. Many of them still think the orange goblin will be inaugerated on January 20. To say this is cringe-inducing is a vast understatement. Trump lost by a profoundly wider margin than Clinton did in 2016 in Pennsylvania and Michigan. It was widely predicted months ago that there would be a record number of postal ballots due to the coronavirus and that these would heavily favor Biden (because Democrats take the coronavirus more seriously than Republicans). The fact is that Trump would have said that the election was ‘rigged’ whether he lost by a lot or by a little. His defeat here this time was by a much greater margin than his victory in 2016 where Clinton nevertheless conceded the following day. The stunning thing is that it was Trump alone who started the ball rolling with his fraudulent election rants and the GOP by-and-large jumped onto the bandwagon. Again, he has some kind of hold over many of them. For me, January 20th and Biden’s inaugeration cannot come soon enough.

Oh: it's been in the news, but in case it wasn't seen: Michigan's Capitol is closed today due to a (per police) credible threat of violence against the electors casting their votes for Biden/Harris. Along with that, one Republican lawmaker, Gary Eisen, was removed from his committee assignments because he gave an on-air interview to a Port Huron radio station this morning. He stated he and others would have an "event" near the Capitol, and would not rule out the possibility of violence in the protest.

The amazing thing is that it was republicans who removed him from the committees.

I found one set of calculations in one of the documents file by trump's "crack" lawyers astounding. It asserted a chance on the order of 1 in several billion that Biden would do as well as he did in several swing states. The assumptions behind that:

- that voters in the state would vote in 2020 in the same pattern they did in 2016
- that votes cast in person would follow the same distribution as absentee and mail-in votes
- that voting patterns district by district would be the same in 2020 as they were in 2016

All the calculations and assumptions thanks to some trump-supporting economist in California. That's quite a level of stupid.

In reply to dean.

Yes indeed, and they ran amok. Trump has done everything he can to provide cover for this despicable right wing detritus. This is his parting shot to an election he clearly lost but which his malignant narcissism and bloated ego will never accept. Trump’s infantile Tweet blizzards need to be labeled, “Stop the Squeal”.

Watching the Republican Party self-destruct is quite a spectacle from over here in Europe. So many Republican members of Congress cower in front of the hideous orange reptile, simply because they desperately want his base-cult to support them. The Texas lawsuit was an epic farce to begin with, and the lawsuits have been so abominable that twice now Trump’s hand-picked cronies at the SCOTUS have even turned them down. A pitiful coup attempt is what this is.

I went through the results in every state and compared them with the 2016 Presidential election. With only a few exceptions, even in red states, the gap between Biden and Trump was reduced between 1% and 5% (in red states) or increased (in blue states) compared with Clinton and Trump. This salient fact is conveniently ignored by those longing for a long-term dictatorship in Trumpistan. Trump scraped through on less than 0.5% in three of the crucial swing states in his self-proclaimed ‘landslide’ in 2016, so it is easy to see how a small swing to Biden would be enough to hand those states to him. I am wondering why the comedy lawsuits exclude states like Montana, for example, where the gap between Trump and Biden was 4% less than between Trump and Clinton. Oh! Of course! Trump took Montana! So who cares about electoral ‘fraud’ as long as you win. That’s it, isn’t it?

Trump lost by 7 million votes and just under 4.5%. By his definition, a huge landslide. That the orange goblin claims the election was rigged is just him being his mentally unstable, unable-to-accept-defeat, self.

I cannot wait to see the back of this repulsive human being.
