E. Jean Carroll vs Donald Trump: He said she said?

My close personal friend E. Jean Carroll is not going to go away. Trump lawyers tried to deflect her law suit, but they were rebuffed by a judge in a ruling Thursday.

Carroll says she is “filing this lawsuit for every woman who’s been pinched, prodded, cornered, felt-up, pushed against a wall, grabbed, groped, assaulted, and has spoken up only to be shamed, demeaned, disgraced, passed over for promotions, fired, and forgotten. While I can no longer hold Donald Trump accountable for assaulting me more than twenty years ago, I can hold him accountable for lying about it and I fully intend to do so.”

Trump says, “When you’re a star, they let you do it. “You can do anything. Grab ‘em by the pussy.”

I guess it is just another he-said, she-said.

  1. “When the allegations first surfaced over the summer, Trump issued a statement claiming that he’s never met E. Jean Carroll. There is, however, a photograph of the two interacting at an event in the mid-1980s.”

Yes, he says that or something similar about everyone who says anything against him or counters his lies, whether it’s the Giuliani associates Lev and what’s-his-name or the ambassador who donated a million dollars.

Poor, poor Trumpty Dumpty, they’re crying all over the place at Faux News about the persecution he’s undergoing.

If we actually had a real justice system in this country, he’d be in prison already for fraud instead of buying his way out of it.

  2. She was on Anderson Cooper, and he went to commercial and cut off the interview after she said women find rape sexy.

    1. No mikeN. She was describing the incident with the sexual assaulter in chief as a fight, not a rape as usually envisioned. I get that what you repeated is the line the right-wing folks repeat, but as usual it’s distorted and presented dishonestly.

Cooper has become fairly proficient at debriefing accusers, but he squirmed through this one. The spectacle of a women in 2019 with a rape story that she wouldn’t call rape was confusing.
“I was not thrown on the ground and ravaged,” Carroll told him. “The word rape carries so many sexual connotations. This was not sexual. It just hurt.” When Cooper replied that rape is a violent assault, Carroll replied: ”I think most people think of rape as being sexy. They think of the fantasies.”

It is still astounding how easily it is to show right-wing comments to be blatant lies.

    2. From your quote, Jean said that most people find rape sexy.
Is your point that women aren’t people?

If there was nothing wrong with it, why did Anderson panic?

    3. mikeN, try reading for context. If you can’t (or won’t) figure out what she was saying, nobody can help (or explain) it to you.

Cooper “panicked” (I don’t agree with that word but…) possibly because

      – he’s more concerned about quick appearances and dishonest takeaways (like yours) than long discussions
      – the people running the show were more concerned about quick appearances and dishonest takeaways (like yours) than long discussions

Which of those, or something else, we’ll never know.

  3. “It is still astounding how easily it is to show right-wing comments to be blatant lies.”

Is there anything in right-wing ideology (including the modern Republican Party iteration of conservatism) that isn’t contrary to fact? It seems to me its “turtles all the way down”.

    1. And they don’t care. Not one little bit. Truth simply doesn’t matter to them any more. Only staying in power.

      This is terrifying.

    1. And the GOP Senate will still wipe its collective arse on the Constitution and acquit.

The right has learned that it can get away with anything once in power. Same problem here – now the liars who brought us Brexit are in charge with a large majority, they are gearing up to neuter the courts and Parliament so that no further impediments will be placed in their way. Ever again.

We are completely and utterly fucked.

  4. “We are completely and utterly fucked.”

I fear that in both our countries, the right-wing trend towards eliminating all checks on their power once they are in power will eventually lead to armed revolution. If you can’t vote the rascals out and the courts can adjudicate the rascals out, what else is left other than acceptance of tyranny?
