"I thought it was only the Taliban that tore down monuments not to their liking"

I never realized hosting monuments honoring traitors to your country who were also responsible for the deaths of tens of thousands of your citizens was a good thing. Perhaps you want to let supports of the scum who caused September 11 and made us start the never ending wars put statues up to them.

I don't get this weird emotions over certain monuments. When I saw R.E.Lee statue I did NOT think OOOOOooo! a hero! No, my first thought is don't forget the people down here like slavery! & honor those who fought for it. I never think of honor when I see a monument, but of history.

The editorial implies that the removal of some of the statues that are currently being removed in the US erases history.

That is the false point people around here are pushing in conversation and editorials when they object to having statues to R. E. Lee and others. Then they go into comments that are (literally) Lee was a hero because he was fighting for his country. Pointing out to these morons that his country wasn't the United States, that he (and others like him) were simply traitors to the United States doesn't faze them. One of our high schools even had a group of little dicks who drove to school in a pickup flying a Confederate battle flag and a US flag flying from the back -- the the Confederate flag was above the US flag. Because "heritage" or some racist crap.

The old saying was "You can't fix stupid." It should be expanded to "You can't provide facts to racists."
