That might be kind of general... but anyway, it is true that we only know about the ones we know about!

The truth of the situation is that it is out now. And there is no telling how many people are carriers - we only know about the ones that we know about. Chaos theory always holds true. Or is that too general?

At this point there have been several reports of Ebola in other countries. Two are valid, the rest have been shown to be not valid. Hong Kong, the US, somewhere in South America, and the Philippines are examples. The Philippines to give an example has a valid concern, there is a lot of back and forth between the affected areas and the Philippines (as is true with the US as well), but nothing has panned out though there has been some sensationalizing.

The only valid cases I know of are Nigeria which may or may not have a local outbreak (probably not but it is unclear) and the two patients brought to the US, who are simply not a risk at all.

<blockquote>Africa are closing borders to stop the spreading but we are shipping them here. How smart is that? ...</blockquote>

You seem to have missed two things:
a) Only two infected people are being brought here, and
b) They are not simply wandering, in street clothes, from the point of infection to downtown Atlanta (or have you not seen or read of the protections taken during their transfer and treatment?)

Clearly though, two things are now going on.
a) Like the aptly named poster at 9, some people are, for whatever foolish reason, not thrilled with this:
http://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/americas/atlanta-hospital-receives-hate-mail-for-treating-aid-workers-stricken-by-ebola-9645199.html

b) The "make up any crap at all to claim that President Obama is doing his best to needlessly endanger us" right-wing is beginning to show up:
http://www.nwitimes.com/news/local/govt-and-politics/indiana-congressman-says-immigrant-kids-might-have-ebola/article_6cd84d69-3909-50d7-aa64-cc211b491795.html

No matter how foolish the lie there are some who will be lapping it up.

Another reason for excessive care re: the masks, suits, etc.: It's a lot harder to touch something contaminated by someone's bodily fluids and then wipe your nose, rub your eyes, pick at your teeth, chew a nail, etc. (things we do without consciously thinking about) when you have a mask over your face...
