Entenza sounds like a piece of work. I infer from the fact that this is a primary that he claims to be DFL, so Republicans don't have a monopoly on boorishness or insanity (not that you ever claimed they did).

The rise of efforts to require voter ID seems to follow the rise to prominence of a certain politician from Illinois, the then state senator who gave the keynote address at the 2004 Democratic Party convention. Most of the noise about changing voting methods that I heard in the 2003-2005 time frame concerned touch-screen voting machines--specifically concerns that they could be rigged (that the CEO of one of the largest providers of such machines was a loud and proud Republican was a significant part of that concern). Some states adopted such machines to get rid of the hanging chad problem. My state did not: state law requires paper ballots here (<a href="http://www.gencourt.state.nh.us/rsa/html/LXIII/656/656-1-a.htm" rel="nofollow">RSA 656:1-a</a>). Voter ID was not required in this state until 2012.

What's really strange is the nasty reaction of the Neo-Cons whenever an accurate, non-sniping description of them is published anywhere.

Either they're proud of who they are (makes sense) or they're ashamed of who they are... But if the latter were the case, wouldn't they seek to change their ways and align their behavior/values to what they say they are?

My only explanation is that calling a spade a spade ratchets up the tension of cognitive dissonance and makes it harder to claim to be one thing while espousing another. The PC posturing blows a fuse if threatened with a public unmasking. The emperor cannot have his wardrobe discussed openly!

So I suppose all this should evoke a response of nasty anger... Well, it does, doesn't it?
