KC, not really. I personally don't conclude that this event is the direct result of global warming but it is not at all the case that the link between this major weather event and climate change is as distant as you suggest. I've been discussing this with colleagues and there are some good arguments linking climate change and Uttarakhand. One thing for sure: Climate change is not UNrelated to most weather events because AGW has very widespread effects and climate and weather are different aspects and ways of looking at the same thing.

The monsoons have done things a few times in recent years that they only do very very rarely, and there is a good argument that this is a climate change related phenomenon. Hyperbolic suggestions that the link is utterly impossible is a form of climate change denialism, and that is not a service to the families of the dead.
