Hollianne, sea ice melting does not increase sea level because the ice is already in the sea. But having said that, I would not be surprised if there was a dramatic increase in the melting of continental glaciers. There may be some very dramatic moments in the process of sea level rise over the next couple of decades.

Such an eye-opening article! It is astounding how much sea levels have increased over the last 15 years. You discuss that our children and grandchildren would observe about a 2 meter escalation in sea level, assuming a constant rate, within a 50 year time period. Could this estimated time span be significantly shortened due to other environmental factors? John Irving posted an intriguing article about how an increase in methane in the Arctic is drastically causing sea ice retreat. With past records of rising sea levels, we must act now to prevent it from happening again in the near future, and so generations to come will not have to clean up our mess we left behind.

> Arctic News
The Methane Emergency Group's blog. They seem to tilt toward burning natural gas faster, vs. having it leak out, but methane oxidizes within decades in the atmosphere; it's the CO2 from it that persists. Where's their plan to sequester the CO2?
