I went to visit my relatives in Minnesota once with my wife. Before the trip, someone had given her "How to Speak Minnesotan," as a X-mas gift in preparation for the trip. She thought it was humorous exaggeration until we got there. My aunt Jüdy, who lives in Mendöta Heights, Minnesöta (she has the accent pretty thick) brought over some hot-dish and a tupperware full of bars. My family were all bewildered at the concept of my wife's vegan diet. "You don't eat meat or dairy or eggs? What do you eat?"
We avoided talking about religion though. My family there is all Irish Catholic; I'm a pagan/atheist, & my wife was Buddhist.
