If plasticity is buffering the effect of natural selection on the phenotype, then why would there be any effect upon the population&#039;s gene pool over time? Why would Canadians ever develop furry heads if hats kept both the hirsute and the bald equally warm (and attractive)? You explained it clearly, Greg, but it makes no more sense to me than it ever did.]]></description>

					<description><![CDATA[Widely distributed temperate fish species, the bluegill, for example, tend to show higher numbers of fin rays and scales in the northern part of the range.  To my knowledge (not current) the fish which shows the greatest effect of different temperatures during development is the tropical to sub tropical Kryptolebias mormoratus.  I compared samples of the related Rivulus hartii from different habitats in Venezuela.  Fish from mountain streams with temps around 72F compared with fish from coastal marshes, temps around 85F, showed no significant differences in fin ray and scale counts.  I was kind of disappointed.]]></description>
