he made the mistake, not that he never said annhtiyg like that and some climate denier must have hacked the site. Steve, I do have some compassion. No one ever said that you were wrong about the salon article originally. Even me, to my shame did not question the veracity of the article. The problem is that once you were presented with PROOF that you were wrong, you did not just admit it and then proceed to ridicule the REAL prediction. I would have had no problem with that, and your reputation would not be suffering from your constant inability to admit making what was initially an honest mistake. Again I appreciate you continuing to keep the issue on the front burner so to speak.

I'm not a scientist but I was intrigued by something I read which wasn't fully clear to me. Some lakes of ice-melt in Greenland disappeared suddenly (not freezing), seemingly pouring downward through crevasses. Question: Can enough water under the 2 km ice make the whole shebang start sliding into the sea?

I can't help thinking that articles like this do much more harm than good!

Leaving aside the description of the Canadian climate as a purely linear thing that's unaffected by such otherwise ubiquitous phenomena as the jetstream (the reason why a cold Canadian spring led to the wettest summer in recorded history in Bedfordshire, apparently) , two graphs that do the same thing for a bit are not evidence of "a direct relationship"; they are evidence of our desire to see patterns everywhere we look.

The only hope of getting the man on the street to think seriously about climate change, is for science journalists to start writing sensible stuff on the topic, which in turn means making sure they don't get confused by seeing over-simplistic stuff like this.....

I saw that news too. It depresses me that the far right is still in strong denial about AGW. I wonder how much of that denial has to do with the 'second coming of Christ', you know, when we get that pesky Armageddon out of the way.

But there is a neat graph that shows why glacial melting is both more important than one might thing and also more complicated than one might think. Have a look:

I can haz a graph, plz?
