Nope: Mélenchon is not a former green, but a former ex-trotskyist turned socialist turned neo-communist.
I was talking about the other president of Mélenchon’s party
(Aren’t french politics fun? even if you’re part of it, you can barelly stay up to date without causing a deadly meltdown of your own brain)

Never heard of her... Guess this is what happens when you follow more closely what's going on American politics than what's going on in your own country :-o

Anyway, thanks for the link, Laurent !

I used be in Tim Holden’s (Sorta-D PA) district, but thanks reapportionment and his primary defeat, the race is now an open context between attorney Matt Cartwright (D) and Nurse/Teabagger Laureen Cummings (R).

Bummer ! I usually have such a soft spot for nurses :-/

My country the Netherlands is too small for silly things like voting districts. We have direct proportional voting. Which is the most fair way to distribute the seats, but makes it hard to form stable coalitions, so the lasts few years we have had elections about every other year. Also, in our system one expresses preference for a candidate, but mainly votes for a party (it's complicated.)

I used to be a reliable GreenLeft-voter - I was even a member of the party - but the new party leader had decided to turn the party into GreenRight by supporting awful austerity measures that hurt the economy. So 12 September I'll switch to Labour, whose new leader is an actual nuclear scientist, which is kind of cool.

The fucked-up thing is, there doesn't seem to be a candidate too extreme to be elected. Look at what happened in 2010. There is not, and has never been, majority support for Tea-Party-style policies in the U.S. (although there may be in some regions). But because so many voters treated the election as simply an opportunity to "throw the bums out", the Tea Party got in anyway. The voters didn't rationally evaluate the choice of candidates, they just voted against "more of this".

This is why seeing the Republicans nominate ever-more-extreme candidates only fills me with dread, not glee.

"Mine is going to be between a specialist of social and solidarity-based economy, a leader of the Green party and a former green turned neo-communist.

He filed late enough that their wasn't time for the Democratic party
