It does seem odd that she’s in that party. Her voting record seems pretty liberal, overall. Granted, Washington State Republicans probably aren’t as crazy as average, so it’s not too surprising they’d vote for her, but I don’t understand why she wants to be in that party.

There was one of those in Minnesota last year, Rep. John Kriesel, an Iraq war vet made the same argument – his relationship with his wife is so special that he cannot imagine denying that right to others. He also mentioned a soldier/friend who was gay and died in Iraq. Kriesel is on the board of Minnesotans United for All Families. There aren’t enough of them, but there are a few Republicans who are on the right side of history on this issue.

I sent her an email (through the WA House site) thanking her for her courageous and compassionate stance for equality.

I debated long and hard with myself about whether to include a few lines about how she should leave the Republican party since they’re – as a blok – so hateful and so unlike her. They don’t align with her moral values; why should she remain aligned with them ?

But in the end I decided I didn’t want to pack too much into a simple message of thanks for doing the right thing.

i suspected there were eloquent, thoughtful, un-bigoted republicans out there.

too bad the media primarily focuses on the crazy ones.
