She was a real person. I have been wondering the same thing. I assume she was not in favor of letting poor women twist in the wind, but who knows, maybe she was a full time one percenter.

Does anyone know what Susan G. Komen thought about this issue of abortion or what her politics were? She was a real person right?

“If you are like me, you’ll want to see Komen rot and die on the vine.” I’m thankful for this brouhaha. It forced me to look more closely at their other policies…and the more I looked, the less I liked. They would not have had such close scrutiny had they not made such a clumsy boneheaded move.

PZ had some interesting info on why Komen might want to drop Planned Parenthood. Seems Komen wants to maintain its relationship with the Catholic Church:

I’m inclined to wonder whether SGK won’t actually use this as an excuse to not renew the PP funding – since PP clearly doesn’t need it any more, now that they’ve raised lots of money from other sources.

Agreed with tms. Komen’s been so good at being high profile, that they were where a lot of women were turning when thinking about women’s health. But by publicly cutting Planned Parenthood, they obviously made a lot of women think about who REALLY has been there for women’s health, at every stage, without looking down at their clients.

There is less than none. Take a look at Komen's reported lobbying expenditures. Komen has spent at least the past decade lobbying against measures that would expand funding for research and access to care, including the public option of the Affordable Care Act.

By caving to Planned Parenthood ...

They didn't cave. They said that all previous grants would be honored and PP was free to apply for another one -- not that they would end up getting one. It's a not-pology. It's worthless. And there's no reason to believe that SGK are actually going to change their tune, given their past actions. This is an eye-opener, not an aberration.
