Anton, well, it was nice of them to offer something, I suppose, but I can see how ads would be of no use… unless you resold them of course!

Science Online sponsorship is on my list of things to bring up in my next conference call with NGS, which, in turn, I hope to have in the next week or so; My role will just be to convince them to talk to you, of course.

Greg, thanks for this thorough post.

So you know, we did have a brief exchange with NGS, which, like a few other media organizations, offered us free web ad placement (ScienceBlogs.com ads were helpful in our first couple of years). We politely declined, explaining that our conference has become a community-driven event that makes top use of social networking tools; we did provide sponsorship options. We’d be happy to have another chance to make the case that this is a conference to support.

Wait, if they think that about you and Desiree, what do they think about me and Desiree? Or are we “protected” by that ability of people to explain away everything outside their experience?

Also, I never even saw Sheril. I love that SciO is growing, but it does make for a different experience.
