Seriously, Texas almost got rid of all this bullshit 20 years ago. Texas was progressive. We had the Strange Demise of Jim Crow. We had NASA. We had the best education in the country most districts. We were going international and making our place in the world. Even those shitheads in Dallas were in on the game, and that’s saying a lot.

I used to think it all went wrong in 1994 when W defeated Ann Richards, but now I see that the Chisum/Heflin incident a few years earlier was the turning point.

Y’all might want to know that several years ago, Heflin lost his seat in west Houston to a pretty liberal guy of Vietnamese ancestry. Don’t know what’s become of Juan Chisum.
