I find it absolutely disgusting that anyone ever took Buchanan seriously. He was never anything more than an unrepentant bigot, and his bigotry led him to oppose US action to crush the Nazis, and to continue to defend that position up to the present day.

OTOH, getting rid of him won’t be much of an improvement, given the number of fresh young faces eager to carry the swastika banner in his stead. Don’t be surprised if they dump him and put Michelle Bachmann or Jerome Corsi in his place.

You see, the self-righteous politics at any cost, “if the president does it it is legal” attitude of the 1970s right wing has moved off the stage over recent decades, and most of the practitioners of that attitude (many in prison) moved with it.

Slight correction: “moved off the stage” should read “moved to the center of mainstream American political discourse”. Also “(many in prison)” should read “(many in the Supreme Court)”.

I used to have such an optimistic feeling about the USA.

Ignore Pat Robertson. Why do you faithfully repeat his loathsome comments as if they had some reality, or credibility? The best we can do for him, is to treat him with the pity the doddering old fool deserves. You would be a laughingstock were you to go into your neighborhood nursing home and ask for words of profound wisdom from a dementia patient,and PUBLISH said words…any journalist reporting his pronouncements should be treated with the ridicule they’ve earned.
