The time issue isn’t at all unusual… police cannot simply stake themselves out at two minute intervals along rural streets. I spent most of my life in an area with a 40 minute response time.

I’m sorry that you’ve come to accept such 3rd world conditions in a first world country.
I live about as far from the center of a middle-size town as this woman does. I rightly expect police to arrive within fucking 5 minutes.
I know they do.
In Germany there are actually plans and regulations about how long emergency services are allowed to take. And they have to make sure they can do it.
Don’t brush of that your lives are treated like shit.

There are plent of people who live 40 minutes from the cops, but it just isn’t true that most people do.

I’m the first to complain about cop response times. I’ve blogged about it. But my experience living in progressive cites with real governments and stuff is that when there is a threat of violence and gunfire and so on, the cops rush to the scene and they don’t have to be spaced at 2 minute intervals to arrive fairly quickly.

Giliell, largely, yes! As I’ve noted, this “remote rural location” is a few miles from the center of a major city. The cops could have gotten there in five minutes and that they didn’t is unacceptable. But that’s Oklahoma. In Minnesota there would be a police chief about to retire.

Given the size of our county and a limited number of deputies response time to a 911 call is at least 30 minutes.
Keep in mind also that, while the average beat cop would risk his own life to protect citizens, police aren’t actually required to protect anyone.
We live here partly because we have very low crime. We also have dogs and my I do have a shotgun accessible and has seven loads of buckshot in the magazine. It also would be wonderful if I never need the shotgun.

But actually, in this case, the thing to do would have been a small blanket folded at the bottom of the bathtub, put the baby in their with the bottle to keep it busy. The bathtub will deflect bullets. Make sure the drain is clear in case there is a drip.

They can choke if the fluid goes the wrong way, milk can harbor bacteria that can proliferate over night and cause tooth decay. Water in a bottle is better, but still not a good idea.
