Your post is dated Dec 22, 2011 and yet your article reads as if it was written in 2009.

“The current version is 9.10, the number representing the release date of Oct. 2009. As Ubuntu is on a six-month release schedule, the next version will be 10.04 in Apr. 2010.” No mention of Unity, a link and reference to Open Office, when Libre Office has been where it’s at for the last year, at least. Vista? No mention of Win7?

I was a little surprised there was no mention of using Linux for photography. There are a lot of options there now. Calibration is a snap, and the advent of new RAW decoders (I am especially partial to Photivo) means you can do excellent post-processing without ever going near either Aperture or Lightroom.
