“I, (name of Member), do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; that I take this obligation freely, without any mental reservation or purpose of evasion; and that I will well and faithfully discharge the duties of the office on which I am about to enter. So help me God.”

Putting aside the “so help me god” bit, this oath obviously supersedes any pledge made by a member of Congress to a private citizen such as Norquist. What is required to support and defend the Constitution is conditional–based on events and circumstances all over the planet, including many that have an impact on the government’s need for revenue. I’m sick to death of Norquist and those reps who think that his nonsense pledge is somehow more binding than the oath of office. Seems to me that Norquist’s attitude, and maybe his actions, are traitorous.
