On its face this doesn’t seem very plausible. It’s not very likely that someone would use an “erratic old .380 calibre pistol” for shooting birds or squirrels. And who shoots fish? You throw a detonating cap in the water to catch fish (known as a Newfoundland wet fly) or a stick of dynamite if you’re a commercial fisherman….
