Just got an alert that HPD is going to be clearing out the Occupy Houston campers in Hermann Square tonight. There were multiple arrests in Houston yesterday during a sit in at the Mickey Leeland Federal Building. Good Jobs Houston, MTA Harris County union have joined in. I was hoping that we could get the Houston 100 Club, the FOP, and maybe even the police unions involved by doing fundraising for them. 100 Club was interested, but turned us down. No response from FOP and the police unions.

Everything was so peaceful last Thursday when we had the big march. Now things are getting serious. City Hall still seems to tolerate the Tinsley Park campsite.

For outsiders, Eleanor Tinsley Park is more of a flood control project than a park. It's a huge dug out tract of land tract of land designed to fill up with water during floods. Buffalo Bayou barely flows, and becomes tidal at Allen's Landing, but it rages hugely during tropical storms and hurricanes.

I have this Saturday off. I may go to the Occupy Houston planning meeting in Tinsley Park, or I may go to the Occupy Galveston march. Galveston? What is there to protest there? Carnival Cruise Lines? I just cleared up a Class C misdemeanor warrant, so it will be safe to take my car there. Bailing out of jail is easier than recovering a seized car. Maybe I'll hit the beaches and cruise the seawall as well.

After the 1900 storm, the deadliest natural disaster in US historym Galveston survivors jacked up the whole island 17 feet and built a seawall. They started an international beauty contest, the International Pageant of Pulchritude. But 1900 saw the decline of Galveston as a major port. The Houston Ship Channel projects got going and the WPA finished the job. The insane dream of the Allen brothers that there would be a major inland port on Buffalo Bayou came true.

I really need to hit the beach. Few tourists this time of year. I think I'll go to Occupy Galveston.

I am of the opinion that protesters should not be able to set up permanent camps in public areas. Parks arent just for camping in, they are also for local residents to enjoy some green.

Also how does banning camping equipment infringe on their right to protest? If they banned gatherings then it would be a problem.
