As I understand it the biggest random variable is that the satellite is tumbling and drag at any time depends on whether it is traveling end-on or sideways. This was reported as making even a rough estimate of time and location pretty much impossible. At some point the skating will stop and it will dig in and start to burn. At that point they might be able to draw an line but it won't give much lead time.

As with Skylab I will be wearing an impact warning conic headpiece. It sticks up a full eighteen inches and will provide a solid nanosecond, or so, warning so I know to duck.

From what I understand, the odds of any orbiting thing landing near people are extremely slim... Apparently this has happened many times before. I think I did here that a cow got hit once but thats about it

Darn, darn, darn! Having watched meteorite hunters, I'd bet pieces of this thing would command quite a nice price on the market. Especially anything that can be labeled a "hammer-metal", (piece of metal from space that hits/damages a human structure). Certainly should more than pay for roof repairs!

Why the gloves and bags, I thought touching the satellite bits was a felony.

Fingerprints? CSI?

By the way, my vote is for it to land squarely on the prison where Troy Davis was executed. Let the fundies sort THAT out in their heads.

It could happen.
