The claim about depleted uranium burning is very dubious and so what. Uranium-238 is not particularly hazardous, so Greg and Analiese - are you reall scientists or just spreaders of speculation and fiction? Why make a big deal out of this? I will bet that you don't realize that you ingest, breathe in and drink a fraction of a microgram of U-238 every day of your life and human beings and other inhabitants of earth have always done so.
Greg I REALLY appreciate these posts. I completely understand the sociology of the pro-nuke, fix-the-climate link: it so happens that nothing reaches a fairly large segment of society with the reality of climate science more than promoting nuclear energy as a solution. There's a great deal of social research/polling to that effect. Conversely, letting the climate discussion get sidetracked into nuclear vs. renewables is a public-opinion loser.

But obviously, you can't evaluate how effective things will be without at least *some* of us objectively evaluating the big picture. And right now, there's a vacuum - certainly some environmental organizations are kneejerk anti-nuclear people. And some are simply conservatives who support nuclear because it's corporate, ties in with the military, and gives them a good excuse to attack environmentalists. But among people not in either of those two groups, the vacuum I'm speaking of results from some being market-oriented and corporation friendly and dismissive of environmentalists but also accepting of climate science. They're going to only show data that fits their preconception about it. You'd expect others to be more inclusive and hence accurate, but they're holding back because they understand the sociology.

There are still only 2 blogs I know of really filling that void, one is Joe Romm's blog at Think Progress and the other is this one. And this one is on scienceblogs, whereas that one is on a liberal think-tank site.
