While it was happening-two things occured to me:

1. He's overextending...

2. Where's the counterweight on the nose?

Lee:
"Do those things have load sensors on the jacks? I'd think it would be relatively easy to monitor and see if the jacks are about to become a fulcrum."

The sensors do exist-but rely on the operator to set configuration info-like "yes, I have a counterweight on the nose..."

Oops...

After it cleared the chimney, I became aware of how far the arm and pool were from the crane and anticipated the end result. Someone didn't do their math correctly! I hope his insurance was paid up!

Looks like that crane operator really screwed up. Good thing no one was hurt.

I was on site for a landscape project that included a pool (bigger than this) that had to be craned into place. Certainly wondered if such a problem wsa likely. Luckily, the pool installer ordered the right sized crane. This guy didn't.
The pools don't weigh much, but it really seemed to me that the arm was low.

I don't swear much. It's not that I find it morally objectionable, I just like to reserve it for when I really need it. If you use it like punctuation, you have nothing to say when you drop a crane on someone's garage.
