Google AdSense has had that problem since its inception - it's pretty good at telling what a webpage/blogpost is about, but it's not able to figure out whether that subject is being treated positively or negatively. Hence, pr0n ads on a blogpost railing against pornography.

On certain controversial subjects it might not even be a 'problem' as such: arguably, PZ might attract a sizable Christian fundamentalist audience, a lot of anti-vaccers might read Respectful Insolence and DrugMonkey might have a considerable number or pro-legitimization readers. In other words, serving an ad that goes against the gist of the neighboring blogpost might actually make sense because an argumentative blogpost might attract as many opponents as aupporters.

speaking of monkeys. yesterday I was driving around Como lake. i saw a guy carrying a primate of some sort. it was dressed in a sweater, and I think pants, but it was definitely a primate and not a furry child. the face reminded me of a baboon and not a rhesus. mostly cuz of the amount of hair around the eyes and snout. anyway, it was hard to get a good look driving by at 30 mph. i suppose it is not too surprising, since the zoo is only a mile away. perhaps it was a zoo keeper or vet taking one of the animals out on a nice day.

It's an improvement over the ads for medical woo that have been popping up on Orac's blog--frequently, the exact brand of woo that Orac is excoriating in that post--or the ads for a certain MN congresscritter that have appeared on Ed Brayton's blog. At least this ad is aimed at people who would agree with DrugMonkey's post.
